Definition: CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI is a standardized method that specifies how a client requests information from a program on a web server. A CGI program (the part that executes on the server) does not have to be written in any specific language. In fact, the point of CGI was to standardize the system so that you can create CGI in any language.
